Science & Arts Academy to host parent education event Oct. 19

Have you ever wondered if your child is gifted? Do you want tips for parenting your inquisitive and possibly precocious child?

Science & Arts Academy, an independent school for gifted students in Des Plaines, is hosting a free parent education event titled "Understanding Giftedness" from 6:30 to 8 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 19.

"Understanding Giftedness" will feature speaker Kathleen Nilles, parent services and communications manager for the National Association for Gifted Children, editor of Parenting for High Potential magazine, and co-author of "Success Strategies for Parenting Gifted Kids."

Parents will learn about the characteristics of gifted children, educational programming options and strategies for supporting gifted children at home and at school.

SAA's Director of Enrollment Management Mindy Hildebrandt has developed these parent education events for the community, recognizing the need for valuable and in-person interaction between parents and experts.

"We are pleased to serve as a resource for the broader gifted community and provide opportunities for parents to make connections and ask questions," Hildebrandt said.
