Veterans group to host 'Tee Up for Ukrainian Refugees'

The Ukrainian American Veterans of Chicago, a nonprofit organization raising money to aid newly arrived refugees from Ukraine, is hosting the "Tee Up for Ukrainian Refugees," a charity golf outing at St. Andrews Golf and Country Club in West Chicago.

Proceeds from this event will help Ukrainian families settle in the United States, away from their war-ravaged homeland. Most of these refugees are mothers and children who are seeking safety and a respite from the horrors of combat.

The Ukrainian American Veterans of Chicago is comprised of American veterans who share a Ukrainian heritage. Most members are Ukrainian refugees or first-generation Americans from refugee families who fled Communist oppression in post World War II.

Today's Ukrainian refugees arriving in Chicago will need help in assimilating. The organization's members can speak Ukrainian; they share the refugee experience, and, as retired American military, they embrace the love of America which serves as the best possible welcome for these displaced persons. The Ukrainian American Veterans of Chicago is also working with local governments with their refugee assistance programs.

The golf outing will be held on Monday, June 20, at St. Andrews Golf and Country Club, 2241 Route 59. The hours of play will be 8 a.m. to 2 p.m. with check-in at 7:30 a.m.

The cost per golfer is $150, which includes all fees, prizes and lunch.
