Dean-Dorhauer Jazz Orchestra to play 'The Wiz vs Diz' at March 19 concert in St. Charles

The Dean-Dorhauer Jazz Orchestra gives the Big Band treatment to iconic songs from Disney films and "The Wizard of Oz" in the next Saturday Night Lights concert at the Baker Community Center in downtown St. Charles. The concert will begin at 7:30 p.m. March 19 at the center, 101 S. Second St.

The concert series is presented by the Norris Cultural Arts Center.

Tickets at $25 and $30 include coupons for complimentary beverages (beer, wine and soft drinks).

The Dean-Dorhauer Jazz Orchestra is a collaboration of Brett Dean, founder of the popular Shout Section Big Band, and John Dorhauer, creator of the new-composition jazz band, Heisenberg Uncertainty Players, and includes members of both bands.

"Drawing on the swinging experience of Shout Section and the new composition route of Heisenberg, this program takes a new and vintage look at musical favorites all in the versatile formats of the jazz orchestra," Brett Dean said.

The Saturday Night Lights series continues on April 16 with the Dennis O'Brien Band. Vocalist and guitarist Dennis O'Brien, a longtime local favorite, presents an evening of hits from the 1970s to the present day. On May 21, Judy Garland comes alive in a loving centennial tribute performed by Joan Ellison.

The Norris Cultural Arts Center wishes to thank season sponsor, Meyers & Flowers Trial Attorneys, for their continued generous support of these events, as well as radio station WDCB-FM for supporting this event.
