Producing profits: MCC to offer farm-business workshops in October
McHenry County College will offer two programs geared toward the food and farming community this October.
Hosted by the college's Center for Agrarian Learning, the sessions are led by experts who aim to educate and inspire by sharing the latest growing and business practices to keep farms sustainable, productive, and profitable.
On Thursday, Oct. 21, at 6 p.m., Andy Larson from the Food Finance Institute will be on-site to present "Growing Into Your Business: Loans and Lending for Food and Farm Entrepreneurs."
"Growing a food and farm business often requires taking on debt," said Sheri Doyel, director of the Center for Agrarian Learning. "This session will help attendees to determine when to expand, when to seek funding, and how to do so when the time is right."
The session will take place virtually and costs $10 to attend.
"Increasing Sales with Frozen Farm Produce" will be held at 6 p.m. Tuesday, Oct. 26. Sybil Ege from The Business of Food will discuss ways for local farmers to increase their sales and reduce waste by freezing their crops. The session will also take place virtually and costs $5 to attend.
