Wheaton's Gary UMC honors graduates with homemade afghans

Gary United Methodist Church in Wheaton wrapped this year's high school graduates with homemade afghans.

The Gary Knitters, volunteers at the church, started working on the afghans last fall to have them ready in time for the high school graduate summer sendoff.

Gary Knitter Nancy Brunner said, "I love the thought of sending our church kids out into the world with a blanket from their church, that they can wrap up in when they're homesick, sad, happy or feel like they need a hug. I like to think my prayers for them are being knit into the stitches, so a little part of Gary Church will be with them in their next chapter of life."

Gary United Methodist Church also hosts "Summer Sundays," which includes worship at 9 a.m. in the Sanctuary with Popsicles in the Courtyard following the service. Worship in person, complete with Kids' Church, or worship online at garychurch.org.

Starting Sept. 12, the church will once again offer Sunday School for all ages at 10 a.m.
