North Suburban YMCA Reopens Pool for Lap Swimming

With CDC and state and local government guidelines in place, the North Suburban YMCA opened its indoor pool for member lap swimming on Monday, June 15. To ensure proper distancing, an on-line reservation system has been implemented for Y members who are 16 years and older. Members can sign up for a 45-minute session. After every session, lifeguards will clear the pool deck to clean and sanitize before the next session begins.

"Our members are so excited, as is our staff, about our re-opening plans. When we closed our facilities in March, we did so to protect the health and well-being of all our staff, volunteers, members, and participants. As we now slowly reopen, we do so with that same commitment to keeping everyone who enters our doors safe," said Kathy Fielding, CEO of the North Suburban YMCA.

Following the reopening guidelines under Phase 3 of the Restore Illinois plan, the Y opened its facilities on June 8th for one-on-one personal training and outdoor fitness classes with a nine-participant restriction. The NSYMCA's School Day Out program is currently running its half-day schedule during the weeks of June 15-19 and June 22-26. Pending the State of Illinois moving to Phase Four of its Restore Illinois program, the Y is scheduled to open its full day summer camp on June 29.

New measures have been enforced to help ensure the health and safety for all YMCA members and staff including adding hand-sanitizing stations, touchless check-in, frequent building cleanings, social distancing directions, and mandatory wearing of masks upon entering the building.
