Annual orchid show returns to DuPage Country Fairgrounds Feb. 15-16

The annual Chicago Suburban Orchid Show and Sale will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 15, and 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 16, at the DuPage County Fairgrounds, 2015 Manchester Road in Wheaton. This year, it will be held in a new spot, Building 2-3.

There is free admission and parking.

The show will feature local orchid vendors with many exotic plants for sale. There will be demonstrations all day on orchid care and repotting.

Several local greenhouses will have plants, books and supplies for sale.

A special hour is offered to photographers at 9 a.m. Sunday.

Feel free to bring your orchids, as Batavia Orchid Society members will be available all weekend to help repot your plants or diagnose any problems you may be having with them.

Members will be available to serve as docents to take you on a tour of the exhibits and explain the finer points of judging and what makes a good orchid for home growing.

Visit the photo contest information at www.bataviaorchidsociety.org or www.facebook.com/BataviaOrchidSociety.

The Batavia Orchid Society also is hosting its annual photo contest. They are looking for the best orchid photo taken at the annual show. The photo must have an orchid flower in the photo, but other than that it's up to you. Note, handling or touching any of the orchids on exhibit is forbidden.

The winner will receive a prize, and the winning photo will be displayed on the website home page and used in the monthly newsletter.

Email your best three photos to info@bataviaorchidsociety.org no later than midnight Sunday, March 1. Entries must be sent as attachments. Label your image files with your name and photo number. All photo file sizes must be at or below 1.5 MB. In your email, include your full name, address, phone number and email.

The contest will be judged by members of the Batavia Orchid Society at the next meeting on March 10.

In addition to flower exhibits and demonstrations, Batavia Orchid Society members will be available all weekend to help repot your plants or diagnose any orchid problems at the annual Chicago Suburban Orchid Show and Sale Feb. 15-16. Courtesy of Batavia Orchid Society
