Elmhurst Artists' Guild Fall Members Show ushers in Arts DuPage Month

The Elmhurst Artists' Guild will host their Fall Members Show, featuring a variety of original artwork created by guild members.

The exhibit will open Sunday, Sept. 8, in the guild's gallery at the Elmhurst Art Museum, 150 S. Cottage Hill Ave., Elmhurst. It continues through Oct. 11. The public is invited to the opening reception from 7 to 9 p.m. Friday, Sept. 13.

This exhibit runs through the first week of October which coincides with Arts DuPage Month, a community-wide celebration of the arts encouraging DuPage residents to expand their relationship with the arts in their own community.

"The Fall Members Show is the kickoff for our 2019-2020 season," says James Negley, guild president. "It will feature a wide range of amazing art made by our members, in a range of media and topics. The show will usher in Arts DuPage Month and the guild has plans in the works for additional festivities in early October. Stay tuned!"

Of the many artists that will be displaying works in the Fall Members Show, guild member Ross Felton will be exhibiting his artwork entitled, "Riot" (collage on paper, 14 by 17 inches). The piece is a portrayal of the 1964 race riots in Detroit and the artist's intention is to show that social injustices affect the whole of society, not just those who are directly involved with a conflict. Additionally, guild member Terri Gregory will be showing, "Tap the Root!" (mixed media on wooden panel, 24 by 24 inches), which depicts an enormous anthropomorphic flower used to symbolize human potential.

The exhibition can be viewed during regular Elmhurst Art Museum hours from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Sunday.

While admission to the gallery is always free, admission to the museum is $15 or $12 for seniors. Elmhurst Art Museum offers free admission to students, children under age 18, as well as members of either the guild or museum. All visitors to Elmhurst Art Museum are admitted free on the first Friday of each month. More information is available at elmhurstartistsguild.org and elmhurstartmuseum.org.
