Hook, line and sink'em at Volkening Lake Fest & Fishing Derby!

Put your fishing skills to the test and get ready for a day of food and fun at Schaumburg Park District's Volkening Lake Fest & Fishing Derby, presented by Schaumburg Bank and Trust.

The fun takes place from 8 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday, June 15, at Volkening Lake, 900 W. Schaumburg Road. The event features a barbecue picnic, bounce house, inflatable slide, an interactive DJ, fishing and paddle boating.

Lunch will include a hot dog or brat, chips and a can of soda or bottle of water.

Fishing Derby participants will be divided into age groups of 3 to 5, 6 to 8, 9 to 12, 13 to 17 and an adult group. Prizes will be awarded for the shortest, longest, most fish caught and most unique catch in each age group. Participants must bring their own fishing poles and bait.

"Fishing is both therapeutic and exhilarating," said Stacy Johnson, assistant aquatics supervisor. "The derby provides a special opportunity for bonding with dad during Father's Day weekend, and family members can participate in the fest activities, regardless of their fishing skills!"

Cost is $20 for residents and $25 for nonresidents. Pre-registration ends at 4 p.m. on June 14. Day-of registration will be available at Volkening Lake for $25. Admission is free for children 2 and younger.
