Glen Ellyn Park District's Monday Miles returns with theme nights, giveaways

Glen Ellyn Park District's Monday Miles Community Running Series will return in June with new theme and giveaway nights, and a new location. The drop-in series is open to walkers, runners, and joggers of all ages and fitness levels.

"In 2018, we competed against Oswegoland Park District to see which community could complete the most miles during the series," said Christine Hartnett, recreation supervisor at the Glen Ellyn Park District. "This year, we decided to change the format and add special nights in honor of our 100th anniversary celebration. Our goal was to create a series that would encourage healthy activity in the community while also creating a fun and inspiring atmosphere."

The Monday Miles program starts on June 3 and ends Aug. 5.

Participants will be charged $3 per night (cash only), or $20 for all nine evenings and a T-shirt. The flat fee is the same regardless of the distance chosen (1, 2 or 3 miles).

Monday Miles will take place from 6:30 to 8 p.m. at Newton Park, 707 Fairview Ave. in Glen Ellyn. Participants should be aware that there is no Monday Miles offered on July 1.

Giveaway nights consist of a Sunglasses Night on June 10, Tumbler Cup Night on July 8, and Backpack Night on July 29.

Andy's Frozen Custard has donated 100 free cups of frozen custard for the July 15 date.

The series theme nights include an Ackerman Fitness Night and a Raffle Run Night, with chances to win prizes such as a free 1-month membership to Ackerman Sports & Fitness Center and gift cards to local businesses like Alfie's Inn, Fire + Wine, The Joy Bar, Chicks 'n Salsa, and McMae's on Main.

To register in advance for the full series, visit www.gepark.org/register or add the dates to your calendar and drop-in whenever your schedule allows.
