Get tips, tricks for building a Lake Ellyn Cardboard Regatta Boat

In advance of the iconic Lake Ellyn Cardboard Regatta on Saturday, June 29, Glen Ellyn Park District is hosting a Cardboard Boat Building Seminar where attendees will learn tips and tricks for creating their vessel from past champions.

The free seminar will be 9 to 10 a.m. Saturday, May 18, at Main Street Recreation Center, 501 Hill Ave., Glen Ellyn.

Participants will race their handmade cardboard boats on beautiful Lake Ellyn, 645 Lenox Road.

Winners are determined by the fastest race times!

Awards also will be presented for most creative, team spirit, and best sink!

Whether you are building a boat or just out to watch the fun, this family-friendly community event is always a popular Glen Ellyn tradition.

Concessions, provided by the Glen Ellyn Fourth of July Committee, will be available for purchase beginning at 11 a.m.

Live minnow races will also be available for $1, with proceeds benefiting the Glen Ellyn Park District scholarship fund.

All entries receive 20 sheets of corrugated cardboard to get started building their boats!

The Glen Ellyn Park District will provide paddles. Kayak paddles will not be allowed.

Cost is $50 per boat. Preregistration is required. Registration deadline is noon Friday, June 28.

The event opens at 10 a.m. Races begin at noon.
