Celebrate Holy Week, Easter at Holy Cross Anglican Church in Lake Villa

To celebrate Holy Week and Easter, Holy Cross Anglican Church in Lake Villa will host the following liturgies: Maundy Thursday (April 18, 7 p.m.), Good Friday (April 19, 7 p.m.) and Easter Sunday (April 21, 9:30 a.m.). The church is located in the brown, one-story brick office park at 500 Park Ave., Suite 102, on the west side of Illinois Rt. 83 and about two blocks south of Illinois Rt. 132 (Grand Ave.).

"Holy Week is the most solemn and the most joyous time of the year in the Christian tradition," said Betsy Crist, senior warden. "Maundy Thursday recalls Jesus' Last Supper, Good Friday memorializes the Crucifixion and Easter celebrates the joy of the Resurrection. Despite the wintry weather lately, Easter is a happy time, when many are looking for a church community to plug into."

While the Anglican tradition is officially Protestant, it's also known as "via media," the Middle Way, combining the best of Roman Catholicism (liturgy and tradition) and Protestantism (authority of Scripture and justification). Interfaith couples will find a friendly home at Holy Cross. Following the 9:30 a.m. Sunday Eucharist is a coffee and social hour. Visitors are welcome.
