Retirement expert to offer 'Can You Afford to Retire?' Feb. 20 in Wheaton

Can you afford to retire?

Depending on your situation, it's a simple question that you may welcome with a sense of accomplishment or receive with more than a little concern.

That provocative, but urgent, question is also the title of a one-hour presentation delivered by retirement expert Greg Kurinec of Bentron Financial Group on Wednesday, Feb. 20, at the Wheaton Park District Community Center, 1777 S. Blanchard Road.

"Can You Afford to Retire?" begins at 7 p.m.

Registration is required for the event, and the fee is $10 for residents and $13 for nonresidents. Anyone with questions about the program can contact Matthew Wrobel, the adult education & recreation supervisor for the Wheaton Park District, at (630) 510-5131 or mwrobel@wheatonparks.org.

The park district is online at www.wheatonparks.org.

In "Can You Afford to Retire?" Kurinec will guide attendees through several self-evaluation exercises that help reveal their readiness for retirement. Thereafter, attendees will be introduced to 10 critical questions that every retiree must answer before embarking on a successful retirement.

Those in attendance will discuss the basic need for an estate and/or a financial plan. Kurinec will then walk attendees through an estate analysis questionnaire and provide an example of a balance sheet.

Kurinec began with Bentron, based in Downers Grove, in 2004. He has helped people at or near retirement through investment advising, estate planning, risk management and watching out for their overall financial well-being.

A lifelong resident of Orland Park, Kurinec is a graduate of Purdue University's College of Consumer and Family Sciences, having earned degrees in financial planning and counseling, as well as selling and sales management.

In addition to his "Go to Greg" column, which has appeared in the Naperville Patch, Kurinec has served as an expert source and been quoted in publications ranging from Consumer Affairs and Insure.com to FINS Finance and MySuburbanLife.com.

In 2012, after his mother, Jeanne, lost her life to cancer, Greg and his two siblings founded "Jeanne's Journey for Hope" to help other families battle the disease in its many forms. Since then, the foundation has raised nearly $100,000 to help families pay hospital and medical bills or as income replacement if the disease has resulted in a loss of employment.
