Join cleanup at 11th annual River Day Sept. 15

The Environmental Defenders of McHenry County and the Village of Algonquin will host the 11th annual "It's Our River Day" - a local Fox River cleanup. It will be held from 1 to 4 p.m. Saturday, Sept. 15, at Cornish Park along the shoreline of the Fox River in historic downtown Algonquin. Cornish Park is at South Harrison Street and Route 62.

"It's Our River Day," a statewide celebration, kicks off at 1 p.m. with a welcome from a representative from the Village of Algonquin.

The Sierra Club will provide bags and gloves for the shoreline cleanup at the main location at Cornish Park. Volunteers from the Illinois Paddling Council, Water Trailkeepers and Prairie State Canoeists will participate in an in-river cleanup between Cornish Park and Fox River Shores in Carpentersville. The Fox River Jeep Club will be at Buffalo Park for trash/recycling pickup downstream.

All are welcome to help clean up the Fox River. The event is free and open to the public. Groups are welcome. Parking is in lots and streetside.
