Lee Selander Elected Chair of LSSI's Board of Directors

Lee S. Selander of Naperville has been elected Chair of the Board of Directors for Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI), a nonprofit, statewide social services organization based in Des Plaines. He replaces John Rudy, who served as chair for the past year.

"We are pleased to welcome an accomplished leader like Lee Selander as our board chair," said Mark Stutrud, LSSI President and Chief Executive Officer. "Lee has been an integral part of our board and advancement efforts for many years. Lee brings strong business experience from his years in banking as well as a deep understanding of our mission through his involvement throughout the Lutheran church. We are truly blessed to have him leading our mission in the years to come."

Selander resides with his wife, Iris Hannon, in Naperville, where they are members of Our Saviour's Lutheran Church. They have five grown children. He has served on LSSI's board in varying capacities since 2011, most recently as Treasurer.

A retired executive who spent most of his career at The Northern Trust Co., Selander received his BA from Augustana College in Rock Island and his MBA from Northwestern University. He currently also serves as a Trustee for Augustana College, Morton Arboretum, the Samaritan Interfaith Counseling Center, the Finance Committee for the University Club of Chicago, and as a board member of City Year.

"I have been a lifelong member of the ELCA and had known of LSSI's focus and mission," Selander said. The organization is extremely fortunate to have Mark Stutrud as its President. LSSI has gone through tremendous change under his leadership and I hope to work with him to refine our focus and secure a viable mission and financial future given the challenges in health care and in the state of Illinois."

Serving Illinois since 1867, Lutheran Social Services of Illinois (LSSI) is a nonprofit social service organization of the three Illinois synods of the Evangelical Lutheran Church in America (ELCA). LSSI is one of the largest statewide social service providers, serving over 50,000 people across Illinois last year. The organization provides critical programs for Illinois residents including foster care, early childhood education, mental health services, alcohol and drug treatment, affordable senior housing, residential programs for people with developmental disabilities, and programs that help formerly incarcerated individuals integrate back into society.
