Horseback preacher to lead worship Aug. 26

The Rev. Ronald Greene delivers a "Sermon on a Mount" at 10 a.m. Sunday, Aug. 26, on the lawn of Christ United Methodist Church, 9009 W. Algonquin Road in Algonquin. The public is invited to this outdoor service which celebrates the history of the horseback preachers, particularly the Methodist Circuit Riders, who brought Christianity to the settlers of America's frontier.

The message will focus on making peace with the diversity of God's world, in society and in nature.

"I have done this dramatic recreation at many churches over my four decades in ministry," said Pastor Ron, a former stage actor, "and I'm excited to take one last ride before retiring at the end of this year."

"It's been an exceptional blessing this time to discover Woodstock Equestrian and to meet their owner, Jennifer Seeger. They've been exceptionally helpful to provide just the right horse for such a specialized event as this. They're a wonderful family-oriented place, with instructions for ages 5-adult. So, I'm hoping church groups will continue to take advantage of their services."

A picnic and outdoor games follow the service. The public is invited to these as well.
