Sign up for co-ed adult sports leagues this fall with Glen Ellyn Park District

When it comes to organized sports, it's not all about the kids!

The Glen Ellyn Park District is now offering a variety of adult sports leagues starting in the fall, so that men and women, aged 18 and up, can enjoy the same sports opportunities as the youngsters. Regular exercise is important for all age groups, and the co-ed kickball, volleyball, and new dodgeball leagues fit the bill!

All league play takes place at Ackerman SFC/Park at 800 St. Charles Road in Glen Ellyn.

Adult Co-Ed Dodgeball:

Dodgeball offers a great way for adults to blow off steam, get some great exercise, and enjoy spending time with other adults.

"Our Adult Co-ed Dodgeball League was created to offer a new, affordable opportunity for adults," explained Brad Thomas, recreation supervisor for the Glen Ellyn Park District. "The adult teams will play on turf courts, just like the youth leagues. Other park districts have seen a lot of interest and success with their dodgeball leagues, so we believe it will be popular in Glen Ellyn as well."

Teams are formed before the season begins.

"Each player will pay individually, but they need to be listed on a team of 6-12 players," said Thomas. "If anyone needs assistance joining a team, they can contact me at bthomas@gepark.org and I can try to help them find a team that still has open spots." The fee is $50 per person.

Teams play a seven-game regular season, with a final single-elimination postseason tournament.

Games are played from 6:30 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesdays from Sept. 5 to Nov. 17. Week one is for teams to practice by scrimmaging against each other, so the first official game is Sept. 12. The deadline to register is Aug. 27.

Adult Co-Ed Kickball:

Adult Co-ed Kickball is also being offered in the fall. Remember playing kickball on the school playground during recess? It's still super fun!

Like with the Adult Dodgeball League, teams will play a seven-game regular season followed by a single-elimination tournament.

"We're hoping to generate a lot of interest for the fall season," said Thomas. "There aren't many park districts in our area that offer adult kickball, but it's very popular in Chicago. We're hoping to see some of that interest spread out our way."

Kickball games are played outdoors at Ackerman Park, using a traditional kickball. Players must register as a team, but individuals without a team can request to be put on a list to be added to a team in case of an opening.

"Our co-ed teams can have 10-20 players," added Thomas. Games are played from 6-9 p.m. Mondays from Sept. 10 to Oct. 29. The deadline to register is Aug. 27.

Adult Co-Ed Volleyball:

"We're excited to offer adult volleyball again this fall," said Christine Hartnett, recreation supervisor for the Glen Ellyn Park District. "We expect it to be very popular. Since it's co-ed, at least two men and two women need to be on the court at all times, and the remaining two players can be either gender. The maximum number of players per team is 12."

Players must register as a team, but if an individual doesn't have a team but wants to play, he or she can contact Christine.

"Individual players can contact me at chartnett@gepark.org to be added them to our free agent list," she explained. "From here, we may be able to add them to a team that is looking for additional players, or we can form a separate team from the list of individuals if we have enough players looking for a team."

The deadline to register is Sept. 10. Teams will play an 8-game regular season, with a single-elimination tournament to follow. Games take place Fridays from Sept. 14 to Nov. 16.
