'Stump the Recycler' at next Green Drinks meeting Aug. 1

"Stump the Recycler" at the next McHenry County Green Drinks meeting. Come with your questions for the panelists - it's all about recycling. Panelists will be Kristy Hecke, solid waste manager for McHenry County; Kim Hankins, director of sustainability at McHenry County College; and Steve Schweinsberg, Prairieland Disposal, as well as other invited representatives from waste removal and recycling companies.

It will be 5 to 7 p.m. Wednesday, Aug. 1, at Duke's Alehouse & Kitchen, 100 Main St., Crystal Lake.

On the first Wednesday of each month, the public is invited to gather for a talk and Q&A on environmental issues and to network with other sustainably minded people and professionals.

The next Green Drink meeting will be Sept. 5 on the Future Energy Jobs Act with a focus on renewable energy, such as solar. On Oct. 3, the discussion will be on "Green Burial," followed by "EV Cars" on Nov. 7.

Earlier this summer, Green Drinks attendees learned about "Responsible Investing." Environmental-social-governance investing involves investing in companies that provide positive leadership in areas that are material to improving societal outcomes. Some areas of impact include: climate change; sustainability; diversity; human rights; and corporate governance. When dealing with investments, it is impossible to predict the financial markets, however, you can determine the causes that your investments are contributing to. Participants learned how to can invest in the causes that you value the most and the types of investment vehicles that can help you do so.

Additional parking is available at the train station. To be added to the Green Drinks email list, send a note to GreenDrinksMC@gmail.com or "like" the group at www.facebook.com/GreenDrinksMcHenryCounty.
