Explore green living ideas at annual expo

Learn how to create a more energy efficient household and live a more earth-friendly daily routine with tips at the 10th annual Green Living Expo from 10 a.m. to 3 p.m. Saturday, Nov. 4, at McHenry County College, in the MCC Gym and outside in parking lot B. The college is at 8900 Route 14 in Crystal Lake.

A total of 70 local green businesses and organizations to help residents explore eco-friendly ideas to take home, including household products, toys, essential oils, jewelry and art. New features this year include a fully decorated, locally owned tiny home for visitors to tour and an award-winning traveling exhibit, "Sustainable Choices." This interactive exhibit explores the concept of sustainability and the choices that each of us makes as consumers. It includes seven different kiosks and three activity stations that have several themes, including electricity, water, transportation, shopping, and the yard. It opens to the public on Nov. 4 and will be on display at the college through Dec. 21 in the Building A Atrium.

Other 10th Anniversary highlights include: an Artist's Walk featuring selected invited artists' sustainable creations on display and for sale, pumpkin and fall décor composting, an Illinois Solar Energy Association Model Solar House on site, solar installers featuring the latest panels and financing information, energy efficient ideas for your home and businesses for little or no cost, University of Illinois solar and super mileage team race cars and team members. In addition, visitors can try out electric bikes in the parking lot. and share their favorite energy saving invention or find at the Living Lightly tent.

The Green Living Expo is free and open to the public. The event is sponsored by the McHenry County College Sustainability Center, along with 18 businesses and community organizations.
