McHenry County College to offer new mobile phone photography classes
Learn all about mobile phone photography and videography with new continuing education classes offered by McHenry County College beginning in September. Instructor Hossein Khandan is an award-winning filmmaker and photographer with more than 37 years of experience. These classes are not part of the photography certificate program offered by MCC.

Professional Tips on Mobile Photography:
Improve your photography skills using your mobile phone. You'll get expert guidance as you learn how to hold the mobile phone properly, lock it for focus and exposure control, create a shallow depth of field, and produce a nice composition. Get tips on how to edit photos and information on free apps that will enable you to create more artistic images. If your mobile phone is your "go-to" camera, then this workshop is for you. Class takes place from 10 to 11:50 a.m. Saturdays, Sept. 8 and 15, in Room E201 at MCC. Use course code NPH S51 002 when registering. A second class takes place from 7 to 8:50 p.m. Sept. 20 and 22 in Room E222. Use course code NPH S51 001 when registering. Cost of either class is $79.
DSLR Filmmaking:
Your DSLR camera can be a powerful tool for filmmaking. Learn the process of creating your own film during this intensive, two-day workshop. Topics include: differences between photography and videography, storyboards and how to use them, creating a script for a documentary or as a narrative, choosing the best setting for your film, and how to create the best shots while avoiding focus issues. Technical topics include frame rates, shutter speeds, manipulating light, using a tripod, editing, and adding music and sound effects. Participants will also shoot a documentary and learn how to export and share their final video. Class takes place from 9 a.m. to 4:50 p.m. Saturdays, Sept. 17 and 24, in Room E201. Cost is $159. Mobile Phone Videography:
An intensive, interactive workshop that will take participants step-by-step through the process of how to use a mobile phone as a powerful video camera. Learn about selecting and using a tripod, and how to craft the best shots, avoid focus issues, organize your shots, utilize editing software and add music and sound effects. At the end of the workshop, participants will export and share their video. Class takes place from 6:30 to 9:20 p.m. Tuesday and Thursday, Sept. 27 and 29, in Room E204. Cost is $109.
