MCC offers computer courses for beginners

In an effort to meet the noncredit computer training needs of McHenry County residents and employers, McHenry County College's Workforce Community and Business Programs offers introductory level computer training.

Welcome to the World of Computers and Welcome to Microsoft Office are hands-on computer training courses and are the perfect introduction to computers for older adults, dislocated workers and others with little to no previous computer experience.

The coursework provides a gentle introductions for beginners, giving personal life examples by providing an easy, step-by-step, skills-based approach that ensures student success.

Welcome to the World of Computers is a five-session course scheduled from 5:30 to 9:30 p.m. Wednesdays, Aug. 17 to Sept. 14. It's the uncomplicated way for computer novices to learn how to use computers, the Windows operating system, the internet, email basics, and word processing using Microsoft Word 2013.

The course starts with elementary computer concepts and introduces basic navigation such as mousing, the cursor, the Desktop, and the taskbar. The fundamentals of word processing are covered using Word 2013.

Then, students are introduced to basic file browsing and file management. Web browsing and web basics are explained. The course ends with a discussion of webmail, email attachments, and email security including scams, phishing, and spam. Cost for the World of Computers is $345 and course code NTC S15 001 can be used when registering.

Welcome to Microsoft Office 2013 is an uncomplicated way to learn how to use Office 2013 for beginners. The five-week course presents a gentle introduction to the Office suite, Word, Excel, PowerPoint and covers the Windows operating system.

This course reinforces learning with plenty of illustrations and practical, hands-on projects and exercises. Welcome to Microsoft Office 2013 class is scheduled from 8 a.m. to noon, Aug. 17 to Sept. 14. Cost for Welcome to Microsoft Office 2013 is $345 and course code NTC S31 001 can be used when registering.
