The McHenry County Regional Planning Commission is leading the effort to review and update the McHenry County 2030 Comprehensive Plan. The commission started its review process in February and will submit its recommendations to the county board by November. To date, the commission has focused on reviewing land use and demographic trends and the various other county plans adopted in the last five years.

These plans include the 2040 Long Range Transportation Plan, the Green Infrastructure Plan, the Comprehensive Economic Development Strategy and the McHenry County Local Food Assessment. The commission received presentations by over a dozen organizations, including representatives of townships and municipalities, neighboring counties, McHenry County Economic Development Commission, watershed planning stakeholders, equestrians, McHenry County Division of Transportation, Illinois State Climatologist, and McHenry County Emergency Management Agency.

A pre-open house opinion survey is available by following the opinion survey link on the project website www.co.mchenry.il.us/2030AndBeyond. The survey allows participants to provide opinions regarding the existing McHenry County 2030 Comprehensive Plan, appropriate future development in McHenry County, and the Commission's preliminary findings.
