The Land Conservancy of McHenry County, a local nonprofit land preservation organization, has a variety of container-grown oaks available for sale starting at $32.

Order now for pick up May 20 and 21.

Bur or swamp white oaks are available at $32 for 1 to 2 feet; $42 for 2 to 3 feet; $52 for 3 to 4 feet; or $65 for 4 to 5 feet.

White, red or scarlet oaks are available at $32 for 1 to 2 feet or $42 for 2 to 3 feet.

All trees are grown for The Land Conservancy at Glacier Oaks Nursery in Harvard from acorns collected from healthy, local trees. Oaks are keystone species in this area, meaning that the survival of many other species such as insects, birds and mammals depends upon the health of the oaks.

Native shrubs also are available for sale and sold in one-gallon and five-gallon pots. The one-gallon sizes are $15 each and are available in black chokeberry, dwarfbush honeysuckle, arrowwood, buttonbush, ninebark, prairie rose and nannyberry.

The five-gallon sizes are $33 each and are available in serviceberry/Juneberry and black haw viburnum.

Visit www.conserveMC.org or call (815) 337-9502 to order trees and shrubs by Friday, May 13. Pickup will be from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m. Friday, May 20, and 10 a.m. to noon Saturday, May 21, at the The Land Conservancy's office, 4622 Dean St., Woodstock.
