Elgin CC advances to region title game

Hampshire graduate Alex Dumoulin scored 29 points and Carly Saraceno added 14 points Saturday as the Elgin Community College women’s basketball team defeated Illinois Valley 65-62 to advance to the Region IV District K championship game.

With the win the Spartans moved to 25-6 on the season, tying the school record for wins set last season. ECC, the No. 3 seed, has advanced to the postseason title game for the first time and will play top-seeded Kishwaukee at 2:30 p.m. next Saturday at IVC in Oglesby.

“It was a great team effort,” said ECC coach Jerry McLaughlin, whose team led 41-35 at halftime. “Alex made some key free throws to put us ahead and (IVC) had a 3-pointer miss at the buzzer.”
