St. Matthew Lutheran School Celebrates Lutheran Schools Week

St. Matthew Lutheran School has many reasons to celebrate during this week's National Lutheran Schools Week! First, in every class at St. Matthew, for it's nearly 150 years in existence, students learn the unconditional gospel of forgiveness of sins through faith in Jesus Christ. Second, St. Matthew students receive a high-quality education that prepares them to be Christian leaders in the 21st century. In fact, the entire Lutheran School system, of which St. Matthew is a part, was recently described as the BEST education system in the United States by NAEP (National Assessment of Educational Progress), also known as “The Nation's Report Card.” When compared to public schools, charter schools, and other large school systems, the system of Lutheran grade schools and high schools was ranked the best academic system.

During this special week, students in grades preschool through 8th grade will participate in a variety of school activities, such as “Favorite Sports Team Day,” “Pajama Day” and “Career Day.” Most importantly, however, the students will celebrate this week by remembering other people in the Lake County community during their “Give Back Day.” On this day, students will contribute food donations to support a Lake County food pantry. They will also remember the elderly congregation members of St. Matthew Lutheran Church by writing cards to them and thanking them for supporting their Christian School. Finally, the students will contribute to the community's welfare through their participation in “Jump Rope For Heart.” Students have collected sponsorships for this event and will jump rope during school hours. All proceeds will go toward helping the American Heart Association's efforts to fight heart disease.

The week will conclude with “Spirit Day.” On this day, students will wear blue and white, the school colors, as well as shirts that display their school mascot, the Eagles! St. Matthew students have opportunities to participate in several competitive teams, such as volleyball, basketball, cheerleading, and track. Currently, the girls' and boys' basketball teams are playing other private schools and have played very well; another reason to celebrate!
