MainStreet grant:The "Come Grow With Us" community garden in Batavia has received the inaugural Batavia MainStreet Innovation Fund grant. The program supplies up to $250 in seed money for nonprofit or community projects in downtown Batavia. To apply for a grant, visit downtownbatavia.com or call (630) 761-3528. The garden is using its money for irrigation hardware, soil testing and fuel.Community garage sale:The South Elgin Rehabilitation and Health Care Center will hold a community garage sale from 9 a.m. to 3 p.m. Friday at 746 W. Spring St. Participants may set up their own garage sale and keep their profits or donate items for the rehabilitation staff to sell and raise money for St. Jude Children's Research Hospital. It seeks sports memorabilia and uniforms before 1970; women's sports memorabilia before 1975; memorabilia or uniforms pertaining to the 1927 Geneva High School football team; 1920s and 1930s Geneva High School track and field teams; the 1940s Geneva High School football teams; 1930s and 1940s Geneva High School wrestling teams; the 1963 Geneva High School basketball team; the 1968 Geneva High School football team; and memorabilia pertaining to women's high school basketball from 1900-1912 and the Geneva High School Girls' Athletic Association.
