Chiropractors open office in Arlington

Drs. Quintin and Katie Sleigh have opened a health and wellness chiropractic clinic, Sleigh Family Chiropractic in Suite 206 of the building at 3285 N Arlington Heights Road. The office is just south of Dundee Road and is open Monday, Tuesday, Wednesday, Friday and Saturday by appointment. The phone number is (847) 788-0880. A ribbon-cutting ceremony will be held 1 p.m. Wednesday, July 29.

Movie comes to Buffalo Grove park

Northwest Community Hospital and the Buffalo Grove Prospect Park District will sponsor "Movies Under the Stars" at 8 p.m. Friday, Aug. 7, at Willow Stream Park in Buffalo Grove. The movie, "Madagascar 2: Escape to Africa" will be shown for no charge. The hospital will have a health bar, where visitors can pick up health information and health-conscious giveaways, including 50th anniversary key chain flashlights and green apples. Winners of NCH trivia questions will receive an anniversary mug while supplies last. No registration is needed. The hospital's Web site is at nch.org.

Learning is lifelong at Harper College

Harper College's Lifelong Learning Institute, a program for community members ages 55 and older, will hold an introductory open house and program preview at 9 a.m. Wednesday, Aug. 5, in the Performing Arts Center on Harper's main campus, 1200 Algonquin Road in Palatine. Participants can meet program instructors, attend short class previews and enjoy free refreshments. Harper's Lifelong Learning Institute offers courses, seminars, trips, tours and lectures with an emphasis on the joy of continued learning. The opportunities, offered through the College's Continuing Education department, require no homework, tests or grades. Management training offered

The Volunteer Center of Northwest Suburban Chicago is offering a Volunteer Management Training Series for anyone involved in the nonprofit field. Course workbook, online resources and networking opportunities will be provided.

The training series has six courses:

• Understanding Volunteerism and Risk Management

• Planning Your Volunteer Program

• Recruiting & Placing Volunteers

• Orienting & Training Volunteers

• Supervising Volunteers

• Evaluating Your Volunteer Program

A certificate is awarded after completion of all six courses. Series registration is encouraged but individual workshops can be taken.

The first series will be offered Tuesday, Aug. 4, through Thursday, Aug. 6. A second VMTS series will be offered in January. Classes are at the Forest View Education Center, 2121 S.
