Boys cross country Class 3A regionals

Hoffman Estates regional

Where: Busse Woods

When: 11 a.m. Saturday

Teams and runners to watch: Prospect is definitely the favorite. Last week the Knights finished second in the Mid-Suburban League, 4 points behind champion Palatine. Senior Chris Spudic won the individual MSL title in 15:20, with Al Ciolek (fith place) and Kellan Stroebel (seventh) giving the Knights three runners in the top 10. Schaumburg also looks to be in good shape. Pat Lesiewicz leads the Saxons and will be looking for another strong race on the Busse Course after finishing third in conference. Alexander Miller finished 20th in the MSL and will try to help Conant hold off Rolling Meadows. The Mustangs are led by twin brothers Angelos and Photis Karkalis. Hoffman Estates, Maine West and Elk Grove should battle it out for the final team sectional spot.

Palatine regional

Where: Deer Grove East

When: 11 a.m., Saturday

Teams and runners to watch: MSL champion Palatine is the favorite in a very competitive field. Senior Alec Bollman and Chano Bernardo pace a Pirates squad that featured five runners in the top 24 at the conference meet. Barrington nipped Fremd by 3 points at conference, and the two should battle it out again Saturday. Sophmore Erik Peterson leads the Broncos, and senior Aaron Ferst paces the Vikings. Ryan O'Donnell paces Hersey, and sophomore Jereme Atchison will lead Buffalo Grove. Wheeling is also in the eight-team field.

Lake Park regional

Where: East Campus

When: 11 a.m., Saturday

Runner and team to watch: Leyden senior Herald Alvarez finished second, leading the Eagles to fifth place at the West Suburban Gold meet.

Class 2A regional

Fenton regional

Where: Fenton High School in Bensenville

When: 10:45 a.m. Saturday.

What to watch: Mike Carvantes-Lara, Nick Fiore and Eric Loy finished 8-9-10 at the East Suburban Conference meet, where St. Viator was third.
