Acevado receives conference honors for red-hot Carthage
The change in scenery and state obviously agrees with Jason Acevado of Vernon Hills.
Carthage College (Kenosha, Wis.) first baseman Acevado, a transfer from Bradley in Peoria, was named the College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin Hitter of the Week.
Showing his skills for the five conference games, he hit .478 (11-for-23) with 3 doubles, 4 homers and 12 RBI.
It wasn't surprising.
Through 19 games, Acevado is batting .474 with 11 doubles, 4 triples, 7 home runs and 37 RBI.
Heading into action this week, Carthage (19-0, 9-0 in conference) was ranked second in the D3baseball.com national poll.
Carthage's 19 wins in a row represent the school's second-longest winning streak. Last year's team set the record by winning 20-straight games.
Going back to late-April 2007, Carthage has won 39 of its last 41 games.
• Pat Garvey (Grayslake Central) of Illinois Wesleyan was hitting .338 after 21 games.
