Feece scores 24 for Vernon Hills

Vernon Hills' girls basketball team recently had a three-game winning streak snapped.

Thanks to Saturday's 57-56 victory over Waukegan at Mundelein on Saturday, the Cougars have another one.

Mallory Feece scored a career-high 24 points for Vernon Hills (7-8), who improved to 3-1 in Mundelein's Lady Mustangs Holiday Classic.

Jamie Rucks added 9 points for the Cougars, who outscored Waukegan 18-15 in the fourth quarter to win the game.

Waukegan's Danasha Jenkins led all scorers with 30 points.

Grant 41, Belvidere 26: At Mundelein, the Bulldogs received 10 points apiece from Amber Potts and C.J. Hill.

Grant improved to 9-6 overall and 2-2 in the tournament.

Carmel 48, Palatine 23: At Warren, Lauren Lehocky scored a season-high 17 points and grabbed 8 rebounds for the Corsairs.

Tiffany Hendrickson had 8 points, 5 rebounds and 4 assists for Carmel (10-4, 2-2).

Barrington 56, Downers Grove South 37: Jenny Schnack (4 rebounds, 4 assists), Sarah Reindl (8 rebounds) and Abby Kirchoff all scored 9 points for Barrington (11-4) which will play Trinity at noon today for third place in the Chicagoland Basketball Holiday Classic at Loyola.

Reindl scored 5 points in the first quarter as the Fillies raced out to a 9-0 lead.

DGS came back to within 10-9 but the Fillies outscored the Mustangs 27-5 in the second quarter.

"Our press helped us big time in the second quarter," said Fillies coach Babbi Barreiro. "We had some real good ball movement and Sarah Reindl helped with some real nice things offensively and she played good defense."

Brooke Chandor, back from an ankle injury and Lizzie Deuel provided solid play off the bench for the Fillies.
