'Sound of Music' opens Feb. 19

From Feb. 19 to March 1, students, ages 8-18, of Christian Youth Theater-McHenry County present "The Sound of Music" at the Lake Zurich Performing Arts Center, 300 Church St., Lake Zurich. Free parking is available.

One of the most beloved Rogers and Hammerstein musicals of all time, it features Maria Rainer, a free-spirited nun-in-training who has trouble adjusting to convent life and is sent to be a governess to seven children of widower Captain Von Trapp. Maria's love of music and of life soon endears her to the children and even the strict captain begins to admire her. Full of favorites like "Do, Re, Mi," "Sixteen Going on Seventeen," and "So Long, Farewell," it is a historical journey for the whole family.

The show runs about 2 hours with one intermission. It is recommended for second grade and up.

Show times are: 9:30 and 11:45 a.m. Thursday, Feb. 19 and 26; 7 p.m. Friday, Feb. 20 and 27; 2 and 6 p.m. Saturday, Feb. 21 and 28; and 2 p.m. Sunday, Feb. 22 and March 1.

Tickets are $8 to $12 presale, plus $2 at the door. For details, call (847) 516-2298 or visit www.cytchicago.org. Group, child, senior and school discounts are available.
