West Chicago Elementary District 33 officials are sponsoring a series of meetings to explain how the district will handle enrollment growth. Hope for Holidays
Two sessions of Hope for the Holidays, a program for those who have recently lost a loved one, will be held at 7 p.m. Wednesday, Nov. 12 at Fox Valley Volunteer Hospice, 200 Whitfield Drive, Geneva, and at 7 p.m. Monday, Nov. 17 at St. John Lutheran Church, 105 N. Police warn of scam
North Aurora police last week warned residents of a scam purporting to raise money for anti-drug efforts in the village. Police said the department is "not soliciting funds from our residents or businesses for any reason." Anyone contacted about donating money to local anti-drug programs is asked to call (630) 897-8705.
Torres to hold open sessions
U-46 Superintendent Jose Torres will hold daytime and evening sessions to meet with U-46 community members. Every other month, Torres will hold a noontime "brown bag lunch" for community members from noon to 1 p.m. at district headquarters, 355 E. Chicago St., Elgin. The evening sessions, also every other month, will take place at 6 p.m. at the Elgin High School library, preceding the monthly Citizens' Advisory Council meeting. The first evening session will be Thursday. The first "brown bag" session is Dec. 11.
Clerk's holiday hours
The Kane County Clerk's vital records division is changing its hours for the week of Thanksgiving. The office will be open from 8:30 a.m. to 8 p.m. Nov. 24 and 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. Nov. 25. The office will be closed Nov. 26 and 27. Regular hours resume Dec. 1. Call (630) 232-5950.
Award nominations wanted
Nominations are being accepted through 5 p.m. Nov. 21 for the 2009 Outstanding African-American Award given by the Aurora's African-American Heritage Advisory Board. Nominees should exhibit leadership, volunteerism and service that contributes to the advancement of the black community in Aurora. The recipient will be honored at a dinner on Feb. 5. Arts Christmas program
The Fox Valley Associates of the Art Institute of Chicago is presenting a lecture to usher in the holiday season at 10 a.m. Wednesday, Dec. 3 at the St. Charles Country Club, 1250 Country Club Road in St. Charles. Jeffrey Nigro of the Art Institute of Chicago will present "On Wings of Grace: Angels in Art." The lecture will feature European art from the Middle Ages to the 19th century which shows angels in various roles. The event includes lunch at noon.
