Pondel, South Elgin take Elgin Invite

Ryan Pondel and his South Elgin teammates warmed up for this week's Upstate Eight Conference tournament Monday with a championship at the Elgin Invitational at Bartlett Hills.

Pondel shot a medalist round of 71 and the Storm edged St. Charles North 307 to 308 to win the team title. Xavier Owens was also in the Top 10 for South Elgin, shooting a 76 to tie for sixth place.

Bartlett finished third with a 312, led by a 74 from Ryan Starks and a 76 from Ryan Wolff.

Lake Park's Bryan McKeown shot a 72 to finish second and St. Charles North's Nate Clark and Dan Shepard tied Starks for third at 74.

The UEC boys tournament will be played at St. Andrews in West Chicago on Thursday.
