Libertyville wins tourney opener
One night after topping Stevenson in a key North Suburban Lake Division game, Libertyville's girls basketball team cruised in its tournament opener at Mundelein.
Freshman Mary Wilterdink scored a game-high 12 points, as the Wildcats defeated Waukegan 55-11 Saturday night.
Libertyville (8-3) led 14-0 after one quarter. Kerry Risley and Nicole Kruckman added 9 and 8 points, respectively.
Vernon Hills 60, Streamwood 51: At Mundelein, the Cougars won their fifth in a row, as Meri Bennett-Swanson poured in a game-high 18 points.
Sydney Smith added 15 points for Vernon Hills (9-1), while Abby Springer had 11. The Cougars also got 8 points from Lauren Webb.
Cary-Grove 39, Grant 32: At Mundelein, Morgan Jahnke led the Bulldogs with 12 points, 4 rebounds, 3 steals and 2 assists.
Paige Lincicum had 12 points for Cary-Grove.
Grant (3-7) also received 8 points from Kassie Stimpson.
Mundelein 42, Huntley 33: At Mundelein, Becca Woit scored 14 points and Amanda Davis tallied 11 for the Mustangs (4-5).
Bishop McNamara 43, Carmel 40: Sarah McHugh scored 14 points and Cassidy Kloss (two 3-pointers) added 10 for the visiting Corsairs in the East Suburban Catholic Conference game.
Carmel fell to 5-4, 0-2.
