Demand high for Harper's hospitality classes

Because Harper College's hospitality classes filled up so quickly, the school recently added two new summer courses - Introduction to Food Preparation and Production, and Food Standards and Sanitation.

One of Harper's veteran hospitality professors, Patrick Beach, will be the instructor for both courses.

The two classes are foundational to all of the department's programs and will provide students with the knowledge, skills and abilities to prepare a wide variety of foods using commercial equipment.

Beach was recently profiled in a national trade publication called Government Food Service. Beach, who is the chairman of the International Food Service Executive Association, was interviewed about how he takes his experiences working as a chef and in different restaurant jobs and applies them to the classroom lessons.
