Baader, Stevenson take charge
Thirteen wasn’t unlucky for Stevenson’s Rachel Baader on Tuesday night.
Baader pounded 8 kills on 13-of-13 hitting, and Liza Pflugradt added 7 kills, as the Patriots won their Class 4A regional semifinal 25-14, 25-15 over Prospect.
Stevenson (28-8) will play Mundelein in Thursday’s 6 p.m. regional final.
Mackenzie Kurth served 3 aces and chalked 12 digs for Stevenson, while Michelle Schroeder added 5 kills and 2 aces. Jamie Baranowski (18-of-18 setting) and Hannah Key (16 of 16) dished out 11 and 10 assists, respectively, for the Patriots.
Lakes d. Ridgewood: At Wauconda, Emily Aigner’s 7 kills, 13 digs and 2 aces led the Eagles to a 25-13, 25-15 in their Class 3A regional semifinal.
Rachel Sieracke contributed 24 assists, Sarah Horner was 12-of-13 hitting with 5 kills and 8 digs, and Alex Silvola added 5 kills (13 of 13), 18-of-18 serving with 2 aces.
Lakes (25-11) will play Wauconda in Thursday’s 6 p.m. regional final.
Wauconda d. Sullivan: At Wauconda, Erinn Hellweg had 8 kills, as the Bulldogs won 25-10, 25-13 on their home court.
Wauconda (23-12) plays Lakes at 6 p.m. Thursday for the regional title.
Megan Tallman added 7 kills, 13 assists and 3 aces for the Bulldogs. Becca Thiltgen led Wauconda with 9 digs, and Rebecca Ledenbach also served 3 aces.
Vernon Hills d. Fenton: At Regina Dominican, Shannon Nugent and Megan Meline slammed 12 and 10 assists, respectively, and the Cougars cruised, winning 25-12, 25-21.
Sarah Lehman dished out 26 assists on 54-of-54 setting for Vernon Hills (21-15), which advances to Thursday’s 6 p.m. regional final.
Grayslake Central d. Elmwood Park: At Johnsburg, Klaudia Basierak and Alex Dahlstrom each had 6 kills, and Meghan Brewster set 25 of 25 with 15 assists, as the Rams won 25-6, 25-18.
Grayslake Central (24-12) also received 2 aces from Dahlstrom.
“We played a good match,” coach Jason Janczak said. “We ran a good offense and served well.”
Carmel d. Kelvyn Park: At Resurrection, the Corsairs won 25-6, 25-5, as Caitlin Barry and Dana Welge had 5 and 4 kills, respectively, and Mary Paterkiwicz served 7 aces.
Taylor Pippen added 6 aces and 2 blocks.
Resurrection d. Antioch: At Resurrection, the host school won 25-17, 25-22.
Antioch (18-17-4) was led by Brianna Grant’s 8 kills and Jessica Ploss’ 6 kills and 3 blocks.
Marissa Grant lofted 18 assists for the Sequoits.
