Palatine bounces Buffalo Grove
Visiting Buffalo Grove stayed close early and was tied with host Palatine at 4-4 midway through the first quarter but couldn’t keep pace the rest of the way in a matchup of defending Mid-Suburban League divisional champions as the Pirates prevailed 15-9 in boys water polo Thursday.
After a goal from BG’s Ian Rodriguez (5 goals) to start the third quarter, Palatine’s Kamil Mulawa rattled off 3 straight as the Pirates stretched to their biggest lead of the game at 13-5.
Mulawa finished with 8 goals, John Giuliano had 4 and Dylan Weissman 2 for Palatine (12-1). Buffalo Grove fell to 8-6.
Mundelein 14, Wheeling 9: Clark Jensen had a team-best 4 goals, but the host Mustangs pulled out a nonconference victory behind 4 goals apiece from Sean Falconer and Connor Black. Shane McDade made 20 stops in goal for the Wildcats (10-2).
Barrington 8, Rolling Meadows 5: Tom West led all scorers with 3 goals and teammate Eric Beightol had 2 to lift the host Broncos past the Mustangs. Chris Hoover came up with 13 saves for Barrington (4-12).
Sam Schmid scored twice for Rolling Meadows (3-10).
Hoffman Estates 18, Elk Grove 3: Mike Christen scored 5 goals in the first quarter and finished with a game-high 7 to help the host Hawks (9-10) past Elk Grove.
Maverick Enolva had all 3 goals for the Grenadiers (0-11).
