Grayslake North savors first victory
Grayslake North’s girls soccer team earned its first win after defeating Antioch 3-1 Wednesday.
“Today we finally showed what we know we are capable of,” Knights coach Adam DeCaluwe said. “Over the first three games, we showed some good signs but made mistakes that cost us each and every time. Today, we made sure to come out with the right mindset as we wanted to make sure that we competed for everything tonight.”
The Knights’ Kim Shurtliff scored 2 goals, one assisted by Maggie Stojak. Chelsea Olson scored her first goal of the season, assisted by Shurtliff. Brooke Sauer made 4 saves for Grayslake North.
Alexandra Fracek scored the Sequoits’ lone goal off a corner kick with 20 minutes left in the game. Kaylee Price made 11 saves for Antioch (0-3).
Grant 9, North Chicago 0: Brianna Miller scored 3 goals for the Bulldogs with assists by Lindsey Lewis and two by Trisha Palmieri. Alyssa Wilhelm added 2 goals, assisted by Kassie Stimpson and Mallory Gizowski.
Stimpson added an unassisted goal followed by goals by Vanessa Foreman (Stimpson), Lewis (Foreman) and Stephanie Aichholzer (Miller).
Sarah Vandervest earned the shutout.
Lake Zurich 7, Round Lake 0: Alex Nasca shot the ball twice into the goal, and Brooke Sill added 2 goals and an assist for the Bears.
Maisie Cox and Vanesa Abad had a goal and an assist. Gina McCoy also scored, and Kate Arends and Desi Rowan had assists for Lake Zurich (2-2-1).
Vernon Hills 6, Antioch 0: On Tuesday, Julie Pecht scored twice and Natalie Mariduena had a goal and 2 assists, as the visiting Cougars won the North Suburban Prairie Division opener.
Alex Goldstein, Kimberly Amari and Kathryn Redig also scored. Allison Clatch, Heidi VanderBloomer and Leah Kelly had assists.
