Boating course offered March 8 in Schaumburg

A boating course will be offered beginning March 8 at Schaumburg High School, 1100 W. Schaumburg Road. It will be held from 7 to 9 p.m. Tuesdays and Thursdays, March 8, 10, 15, 29, 31.

America's Boating Course is a five-week boating course for recreational boaters. The course is taught by the Fox Valley Sail and Power Squadron, one of the United States Power Squadrons (USPS).

Topics include rules of the road, required safety equipment, navigational aids, lights and sounds, anchoring, communications afloat, adverse conditions, water sports safety, trailering, knots and lines and more.

The ABC course is recognized by the United States Coast Guard and is accepted by most states as meeting their requirements for a safety certificate. USPS is a nonprofit educational organization dedicated to making boating safer and more

enjoyable by teaching classes in seamanship, navigation and related subjects.
