BG puts it all together, surprises Hoffman Estates

Buffalo Grove coach Pat Dudle has been persistent when addressing his Bison girls basketball players.

"We've kept telling them to have confidence because they've been playing a great schedule," Dudle said.

Well, the Bison were great in Thursday's Mid-Suburban League crossover with visiting Hoffman Estates.

Led by senior guard KC Dunne's game-high 20 points, BG stopped the Hawks 66-58.

"BG played a great game," said Hawks coach Mike Nocella whose club is 12-4. "They played a real complete game, the best I've seen from them."

Dunne's scoring was balanced throughout the contest.

"KC was taking the ball to the basket hard," said Dudle, whose team improved to 5-10. "Some defenders gave her room behind the arc and she connected."

BG junior guard Emily Cho connected on 7-of-10 free throws in the final quarter.

After trailing 26-21 at intermission, the Bison outscored the Hawks 45-30 in the final two quarters.

"KC also played fantastic defense and helped us on the boards," Dudle said. "Emily (Cho) made clutch free throws in the fourth quarter."

Sophomore Destinee Young scored 19 of the Hawks' 26 points in the first half and finished with a game-high 29 points and 13 rebounds.

"She is a real force on the boards," Dudle said of Young. "We were able to claw back into the game. At half, we stressed playing tougher defense and obviously we had to hit the boards harder than we did in the first half.

"They were having their way on the boards but we had to rebound with more tenacity in the second half."
