Sweeps for Meadows, Barrington, Leyden
Rolling Meadows’s softball team belted 4 home runs on Saturday en route to a doubleheader sweep of visiting Evanston.
Coach Tony Wolanski’s Mustangs improved to 9-5 with a 13-1 five-inning victory in Game 1 and an 11-7 triumph in Game 2.
Sophomore Sara Brunlieb (7-3) struck out five and walked none while tossing a 7-hitter in the opener.
Senior catcher Kelly Keyzer belted a homer and went 3-for-3 with 2 RBI for the Mustangs.
Other key hitters for the hosts were Emily Hattory (2-for-3, double), Grace Skorin (3-for-3, 3 RBI, 2 doubles), Sam Anderson (2-for-3), Natalie Cannizzo (3-for-3, 2 RBI, double) and Kelly Sarussi (double).
Kayle Mueller (2-1) threw the first five innings of Game 2 for the win.
Anderson (2-for-4, 4 RBI) belted 2-run homers in the second and third innings while junior Josie Suchecki clubbed a 3-run blast in the third.
Morgan (2-for-4), Abby Matayka (2-for-4) and Grace Skorin (2-for-4) were also multiple hitters for Meadows in Game 2.
Barrington sweeps: Senior outfielder Liz Owen went 3-for-4 with a grand slam and 5 RBI for the host Fillies (14-4), who won 11-5 in Game 1.
Winning pitcher Loren Krzysko (2-1) and Kristen Kuhn (2-for-3, 2 RBI) also homered for the Fillies while Colleen Shandley (2-for-4, 1 run), Kelsey Kazmier (3-for-4, 2 runs) and Savonnah Osmanski (double) were other key hitters.
Junior Emma Woods (1-1) was the winning pitcher in Game 2 as the Fillies notched a 15-5 decision in five innings.
Kazmier (3-4, 2 RBI), Shandley (3-for-3), Ally McLaughlin (3-for-4), Krzysko (2-for-4, 2 RBI), Jazlynn Skor (2-for-2, 2 doubles), Osmanski (2-for-3, double) and Danielle Di Iorio (2-for-4, home run, double, 3 RBI) led the offense for Barrington.
Leyden sweeps: Host Leyden won 5-1 over Maine South in Game 1 as Morgan Maize (3-for-4, double, 3 RBI) and Christina Morgan (double, 2 RBI) led the offense.
Maize recorded 6 strikeouts with no walks to get the win.
Leyden (10-2) edged the Hawks 11-10 in Game 2 as Maize (3-for-3, 2 home runs, triple, 4 runs, 6 RBI), Morgan (3-for-4, 3 runs) and Denise Moran (double, 2 RBI) led the way.
Maize (9-1) went 2 innings to get the win in relief of Hannah Seymore (5 innings).
Lake Zurich 7, Prospect 2: Lake Zurich scored jumped out to a 4-0 lead in Mt. Prospect after three innings.
Prospect (4-8) scored its 2 runs in the top of the sixth when senior Nikki Surico walked and Michelle King reached on a fielder’s choice.
Sam Mangrum then singled home Surico and King scored on Michele Molini’s RBI groundout to second.
Knights junior Hanna Lythberg (2-5) threw a 5-hitter.
St. Viator drops two: Visiting Bishop McNamara swept a pair of games in Arlington Heights, 8-6 and 14-4, in the East Suburban Catholic Conference.
Junior shortstop Alex Flasch belted 2 homers in Game 1 and a triple in the night cap for the Lions (6-9, 1-2).
