Link between genes and cancer explored at MCC

Submitted by Centegra

Those who have a family history of cancer or who are interested in learning about the link between genes and cancer are welcomed to attend, “Genes and Cancer: The New Frontier,” an informative lecture and discussion. The free symposium will be from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. Wednesday, April 4, at McHenry County College Conference Center, 8900 Route 14, Crystal Lake.

“Participants will learn how the new frontier of genetics can tell us more about individual cancer risks, effective treatments and outcomes,” said Dr. Michael Soble, an independent oncologist and hematologist on the medical staff at Centegra Health System.

Soble will join independent radiation oncologists Dr. Terrence Bugno and Dr. Geoffrey Smoron for this informative lecture, which will also allow time for questions and answers. Shelly Galasinski, a licensed genetic counselor with Centegra Health System, also will be present to answer questions about the Centegra Cancer Genetic Counseling Program.

“Our program uses comprehensive genetic evaluation, testing, education and counseling to provide individuals and their families a better understanding of their cancer risks,” Galasinski said.

“These consultations help people make more informed medical decisions,” she added.
