Vernon Hills Y Infant Room Gets New Cribs Thanks to Donations

The infant classroom at Central Lake YMCA's Child Development Center is being equipped with 12 brand new cribs – replacing the ones that had been in use since the Vernon Hills facility opened in 2001 – thanks to the fund-raising efforts of one woman.

When Angie Schroedel, YMCA ambassador, learned that all the nursery cribs would have to be replaced by the end of this year at a cost of nearly $3,000 to meet new federal day-care standards, she soon began seeking $10 donations. The response was good and, as word began to spread, nine individuals offered to cover the cost of one crib each. “As a result, the money needed to buy the new cribs was raised in about two weeks thanks to the generosity of family, friends and Y supporters,” the Lake Zurich resident said.

Ruth Reichenbach, Lake County Family YMCA senior child care director, a 27-year Y employee, was overwhelmed by the response. “I'm so thankful for the kindness of other people who, in this economy, were willing to give to cover the cost of purchasing these new cribs,” she said.

The Child Development Center at Central Lake YMCA, 700 Lakeview Parkway, Vernon Hills, offers full- and part-week classes for children ages 6 weeks through 5 years. This program provides high-quality, fun experiences designed to inspire each child to grow to his or her fullest potential.
