Barrington keeps share of West lead

Barrington’s softball team posted a 2-0 shutout over visiting Buffalo Grove on Friday and is tied for first in the Mid-Suburban West with Conant.

The Fillies (13-2, 3-0) were led on offense by senior Ally McLaughlin (2-for-3) and junior Raegan Fingerman (2-for-2, double, 1 run).

Barrington scored twice in the fourth.

Junior Morgan Olszewski singled to left with one out to score Fingerman from second base. An error on the play allowed Tess Bolger to score from first base.

Junior Cassidy Kraimer (6-1) earned the win, striking out nine and walking none while tossing a 3-hitter.

Freshman Julia Camardo (3-4) struck out three and walked one for BG (5-8, 1-2), which was led on offense by freshman Caitlin Catino (2-for-3).

Fremd 14, Hersey 4 (5 innings): JuniorMichelle Mazur went 4-for-5 (5 RBI, 3 runs) with a home run and triple for host Fremd (12-3, 2-1).

Vikings newcomer Tracy Welninski belted a grand slam in her second varsity at-bat.

Other top hitters for Fremd were Leigh Farina (double), Caitlin Patenaude (2-for-3, 2 runs, RBI), Sara Untiedt (2-for-2, 1 run) and Megan Hubbard (double).

Junior Ashlynne Schwantz (6-1) earned the win.

Hersey (6-7, 0-3), which led 2-0 before Fremd scored 10 runs in the bottom of the fourth, was led by Alysia Zaucha (2-for-3, double), Alex Tinaglia (double) and Sarah Platt (double).

Palatine 1, Rolling Meadows 0: Junior Megan Hedstrom (7-4) threw a 6-hitter for Palatine (9-6, 2-1) with 6 strikeouts and went 1-for-3 at the plate.

Her catcher, Lauren Logan, was 2-for 3 with a double.

Junior pitcher Sara Brunlieb struck out eight while giving up 5 hits for Meadows (7-5, 1-2).

Hedstrom singled with one out in the sixth inning and later scored the only run on a throwing error.

Schaumburg 7, Wheeling 6: Senior left-handerAlyssa Lancaster (4-1) earned the win for Schaumburg (7-4, 2-1) and also went 2-for-4 with an RBI.

Junior Julia Bellinger was 3-for-3 for the Saxons while teammate Courtney Plackner belted a home run.

Other top hitters for Schaumburg were Hannah Kerr (2-for-4) and Kirsten Safley (1-for-3, RBI).

Wheeling (1-6, 0-3) was paced by Jackie Resnick (3-for-4), Nette Howard (2-for-4, double) and Ashley Hafertepe (home run).

Hoffman Estates 5, Propect 2: Freshman Charlotte Allan threw a 7-hitter with 8 strikeouts and 2 walks for host Hoffman Estates (3-7-1, 1-2).

Leadoff batter Sam Acosta (2-for-2, walk, 3 runs) and Kaeleen Hendle (2-for-3, RBI) were top hitters for Hoffman while Alex Tuminaro belted a 2-run, two-out double to left-center in the fifth inning to score Allan and Acosta.

Tuminaro also threw a runner out at the plate to catcher Hendle in the sixth inning.

Meghan Doyle homered for Prospect (4-9, 1-2) while teammate Michele Molini had a double.

Knights pitcher Hanna Lythberg (3-6) struck out five and walked only one.

St. Viator 14, Highland Park 4: Sam Hogan (4-6) got the win for visiting St. Viator (6-7) which was led on offense by Alex Flash (4-for-5, 4 runs, 3 RBI), who belted her fourth home run of the season.

Other top hitters for the Lions were Gina Mastrodomenico (2-for-4, 2 runs), Hogan (3-for-5, 4 RBI), Lauren Prazuch (2-for-4, double, 2 RBI) and Michelle Preslak (2-for-5, triple, 1 run, RBI).

Christian Liberty 11, Christian Life 1: Megan Krizanovic homered for the Chargers and Megan Sullivan was the winning pitcher on Thursday.
