Brass quintet featured at ESO family concert in Elgin

The Elgin Symphony Orchestra will present the second of three Family Fun Concerts at 3:30 p.m. Saturday, Jan. 29, at the Hemmens Cultural Center, 45 Symphony Way, Elgin.

Preconcert activities will begin at 2 p.m. and include crafts and music activities presented by the Elgin Area School District U-46 along with an instrument petting zoo.

This concert will feature the ESO’s Brass Quintet. Members of the ensemble include Ross Beacraft and Edgar Campos, trumpets; Mary Buscanics-Jones, French horn; Mark Fry, bass trombone; and Charles Schuchat, tuba.

The music performed will span the repertoire from the Renaissance to jazz to Sousa. The musicians will demonstrate their instruments and answer questions from the audience.

The Elgin Symphony’s Cello Mascot will make an appearance and make a public plea for a name. The naming contest will continue until the third Family Fun Concert April 16.
