Help available for heating bills
There is still money available to help local residents pay their home heating bills. Local residents will have to apply soon; the low-income home energy assistance program ends May 31.
LIHEAP provides a once-yearly benefit to income eligible households. It is made available in DeKalb and Kane counties through Community Contacts Inc., a nonprofit human service organization.
Eligibility is based on the household’s combined income for the prior 30 days. For example, a household of one cannot exceed $1,354; for two people, $1,821; for three people, $2,289; for four people, $2,756; and for five people, $3,324.
Applications are taken by appointment. Call (815) 758-3835 or (847) 697-4400.
