Big finish lifts Barrington
Down to its last out and trailing 2-0 in the top of the seventh inning at Prospect, Barrington’s softball team got 2 runs on an infield error and then went on to win 10-2 in 10 innings.
“They have a real good pitcher (senior Hanna Lythberg),” said Barrington’s slugging third baseman Loren Krzysko. “They’re good but we all just stepped up when we had to.”
Krzysko stepped up with the bases loaded in the top of the tenth, after 2 Prospect errors and an infield hit by Kelsey Kazmier.
Krzysko singled sharply to center for her first hit of the game and it proved to be the game-winning RBI as 2 runs crossed the pate.
The Fillies (19-4, 7-2) went on to score 6 more times, taking advantage of 5 errors and 4 hits in the inning.
“It felt good to finally get that hit,” Krzysko said. “Every game is a big one in our conference.”
Junior Cassidy Kraimer (11-3) struck out six and gave up 6 hits while Lythberg (5-11) struck out 12, walked two and gave up 9 hits. Both pitchers went all 10 innings.
Lythberg, who recently committed to Valdosta State University in Valdosta, Ga., did not give up an earned run.
“I told the girls this shows what we are capable of,” said Knights coach Jim Adair. “We have improved a lot. We were playing a 19-4 team. We had them, and then we fell apart.
“I told the kids to remember how well we played and then how we let them off the hook.”
Prospect (6-17, 3-6) jumped ahead 2-0 in the first inning on a one-out 2-run double by Cassie Poulos (2-for-5) which scored Julie Mazur and Lythberg (2-for-4, 1 walk, double).
Tess Bolger (3-for-5) and Morgan Olszewski (2-for-5) scored Barrington’s runs in the top of the seventh when Erin Ward reached on an error.
Fremd 17, Rolling Meadows 0 (5 inn.): SeniorRachel Doering (10-2) struck out one and allowed 1 hit in 4 innings for Fremd (20-5, 7-2).
The Vikings’ offense was led by Leigh Farina (3-for-3, double), Michelle Mazur (2-for-2, 2 doubles), Megan Hubbard (2-for-2, 2 doubles), Brittany Ciura (2-for-2, double), Janelle Schneider (2-for-2) Ashlynne Schwantz (2-for-2), Tracy Welninski (double) and Kristine Herdegen (double).
Riley Zimmer pitched the fifth inning for Fremd, striking out one and walking one.
Chloe Prodanovic’s two-out single in the second inning was the only hit for host Meadows (13-9, 4-5).
Buffalo Grove 7, Hoffman Estates 1: JuniorMegan Fu (2-for-4), junior Erin Barton (2-for-3), senior Becca Winter (2-for-3) and freshman Caitlin Catino (2-run single) led the offense for host Buffalo Grove (8-13, 4-5), which won its third straight game in the MSL.
Nicole Labeck and Kaileen Hendle (RBI double) had the only 2 hits off BG freshman Julia Camardo (6-8), who struck out seven and walked one.
Freshman Charlotte Allan struck out six and walked two for Hoffman (3-13-1, 1-8).
Maine West 20, Maine East 3: Maine West improved to 15-7 and 5-0 in the CSL North as junior Ariel Valles (11-4) threw a complete game.
Holly Wengerski (3-for-4, double, 4 RBI, 3 runs), Hanna Udischas (4-for-4, double, 3 RBI) and Gina Larucci (2-4, 2 runs, 2 RBI) led the West offense.
“It was a great team effort today,” said Warriors coach Amy Gonzales.
