St. Vincent de Paul Walk for the Poor raises awareness, funds

Submitted by Church of Holy Apostles

Walkers from McHenry County joined together to raise awareness and funds to help those in need in the McHenry, Johnsburg and Ringwood areas during the annual St. Vincent de Paul Walk for the Poor on Sept. 21.

The Rev. Paul White, pastor of the Church of Holy Apostles in McHenry, thanked the walkers for participating and offered a blessing before the start of the walk at Veterans Memorial Park. He quoted Mother Teresa saying, “We do this because we are Catholic, not because (the people we help) are.”

Many participants walked three miles in groups as families, organizations, ministries and friends.

Attendees enjoyed refreshments and music by the Christian rock band Lift while waiting for the start of the walk.

All proceeds raised benefit those in need by providing, food shelter and clothing.
