Get free intro to nature programs in McHenry County

Learn all about McHenry County Conservation District’s People and Nature Programs during an open house and free introductory session from 7 to 8:30 p.m. Tuesday, Sept. 24, at Lost Valley Visitor Center in Glacial Park, Route 31 and Harts Road in Ringwood.

The People and Nature Program is designed to serve the homeowner, volunteer steward, nature educator, or lover of the outdoors. The programs cover topics on ecological restoration, landscaping with nature and nature interpretation.

Are you interested in one of the conservation district’s certificate programs, but not sure which one or how they differ from one another? Are you confused about which workshops are required and which are elective? Is it OK to take a class if you don’t plan on receiving a certificate? Here is your chance to have all of your questions answered, plus get a $15 credit toward your next workshop. Returning participants are encouraged to attend.

Tom Simpson, research field station ecologist and coordinator of the People and Nature Programs, will talk briefly about the PNP and answer questions, and then give a short presentation: “A Quick Look Into the Mysteries of Soil” at 7:15 p.m.
