Algonquin church to host jazz concert

Submitted by Congregational Church of Algonquin

The Congregational Church of Algonquin, 109 Washington St., invites the community to The Jazz Consortium Big Band concert at 3 p.m. Sunday, June 23.

The 17-piece Chicago big band celebrates the best swing and jazz-rock big band music. Since its inception in 1975, the band has featured well-known music from such iconic big bands as Count Basie, Duke Ellington, Benny Goodman and Glenn Miller, and contemporary big bands like Buddy Rich, Maynard Ferguson and Thad Jones-Mel Lewis, plus original compositions by band members.

Led by saxophonist Roy Vombrack, this Chicago-area big band plays a variety of jazz, swing and jazz-rock music that appeals to all ages — from the classic “In the Mood” to its jazz rock interpretation of “Fanfare for the Common Man.”

There will be a freewill offering. For details, call the church office at (847) 658-5308 or visit www.algonquinucc.org. For information on the band, visit www.jcbigband.com.
